For one day at least, NYU was tops in New York basketball.
With the Knicks and Nets off Sunday, the Violets represented the Big Apple in style thanks to a dramatic buzzer-beater that gave them a 72-70 win over Emory in Division III college basketball action.
Patrick Burns set the play in motion with just 1.5 seconds left on the clock by heaving an inbounds pass down court that Costis Gontikas tipped to Evan Kupferberg, who put in the winning layup.
“We’ve worked on plays like that in practice, but you need luck and execution for it to work in-game,” NYU Senior Assistant Coach John Pelin told the school’s website.
“They did a great job.”
They also earned a spot on ESPN SportsCenter’s Top 10 plays of the day.
When was the last time the Knicks or Nets did that?
