The latest episode of CBS’ “Mom” turned tragic.
The comedy is no stranger to tackling difficult issues such as addiction, family drama and financial struggles, but always in a laughable light. However, Thursday’s episode had a darker twist.

Viewers watched beloved character and teen addict Jodi, played by Emily Osment, die from a drug overdose. A character decision that was set in stone since Jodi was introduced, according to co-creator Chuck Lorre.
Christy (Anna Farris)served as Jodi’s AA sponsor in the show and it is expected she will be dealing with the loss of addiction in upcoming episodes. Thursday night’s show ended with a PSA on the importance of seeking help for addiction.

Although the death was a shock to viewers, many commended the network’s bravery.
Even U.S Surgeon General Vivek Murthy chimed in.
“Thank you @AllisonBJanney, @AnnaKFaris, @MomCBS &@CBScares for helping spread the truth about #addiction,” he tweeted.
