‘Tropical Night of Dominican Jazz’ takes over New York City’s SOB’s

Should you be strolling through SoHo Wednesday, Oct. 8, you might hear live jazz music playing – Dominican-style.

SOB’s is hosting “Tropical Night of Dominican Jazz,” a 90-minute presentation featuring Alex Diaz y Son De Calle and Irka Mateo.

Celebrated salsa singer and songwriter Jose Alberto El Canario will make a special guest appearance.

Diaz founded his merengue-jazz band in 1990 and has shared the stage with the likes of Latin jazz maestros Tito Puente and Cachao.

Mateo is a world music artist who’s known for using Afro-Caribbean and Taino elements in her music. She once opened for The Fugees when the hip hop group performed in Haiti in 1996.
