Studio Behind Zelda Remakes Hiring Unreal Engine 4 Programmers For New “Legend”

Grezzo, a Japanese video game developer best known in recent years for 3DS remakes of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, is recruiting for Unreal Engine 4 programmers.

The website, when translated to English, describes hiring developers for a new project by asking "Would you like to make a legend together 2?" The "2" at the end is because they presented the same line when recruiting for Majora's Mask 3D, though it was not known that was the project at the time.

The natural inclination is to assume this will be a new Zelda project for the Switch, but that's not necessarily the case. Grezzo's founder, Koichi Ishii, is also the director of Secret of Mana and Legend of Mana when he was with Squaresoft, also known as the Seiken Densetu series in Japan, which also uses the same "Legend" titling. It is possible Grezzo is getting re-involved with the Mana series again, especially as it seems the studio's latest game, the Nintendo-published Ever Oasis on the 3DS, did not light up the charts. Meanwhile, Square-Enix appears to be getting behind the Mana series again.

It remains to be seen what the studio will be developing, but hopefully we will see it soon.

Our Take
A new Zelda remake would be great, but there's not really anything they could remake. Wind Waker and Twilight Princess got HD updates, while Skyward Sword has not. On the other hand, a UE4 remake of that seems excessive. Mana seems like a much better bet, but it could be a total curveball, too.
