More than half of the survey respondents who said they change their sheets every three months were between the ages of 18 and 25.

Watch out, ladies — your dream date could have some nightmarish sheets on his bed.

A survey conducted by UK mattress company Ergoflex revealed that the average single man only changes his sheets every three months.

That’s a gross fact as is, but what may be worse is that nearly half of those respondents (49%) reportedly said they thought their unsanitary habits were acceptable, while 19% confessed they just don’t care.

The average single woman, on the other hand, changes her sheets every two-and-a-half weeks.

People in relationships tend to wash their bed linens more often, according to the survey. However, in 81% of couples, the woman usually take care of the sheets.

Men and women aged 35 to 50 are the most likely to change their sheets on a weekly basis.

Not surprisingly, 17% of the single men surveyed admitted a potential partner has been “put off” by their dirty bed, but that may be the least of their worries.

“Romantic ambitions aside, we were more alarmed by the potential health risks that unhygienic bed-sheets could cause, considering in particular two unwelcome night-time companions — dust mites and bed bugs,” Ergoflex’s Steven Willis wrote in a blog post.

How often should you wash your sheets? Good Housekeeping suggests throwing them in the washing machine at least every other week. Other experts advise that people swap out their linens once a week.
