Sam Smith has paid Tom Petty songwriting royalties for Smith’s song “Stay With Me,” due to its resemblance to Petty’s 1989 hit, “I Won’t Back Down.” The two performers reached an out-of-court settlement last October, and Smith paid Petty 12.5% of the song’s profits and gave him a writing credit. Petty also can now receive royalties from Smith’s song, and he gets a shot at a Grammy for Song of the Year, because he penned the tune it was inspired by.
BLIZZARD’S SNOW JOKE FOR C.K. FANS
Louis C.K. and his fans fell victim to the blizzard. The comic announced Monday that his Madison Square Garden show on Tuesday had been canceled “due to the impending winter storm.” “Louis C.K. wants everyone who purchased a ticket for the Jan. 27 show to know that they will be informed first when Louis C.K. announces his next show in New York City,” the venue said in a statement, “and given the opportunity to participate in an exclusive presale.”
BARRYMORE REIN DATE
Not even an oversized hat and massive sunglasses can hide Drew Barrymore’s glee. The mom of two spent the weekend cheering on 2-year-old daughter Olive as she took a ride on a horse at the California Farmer’s Market in Studio City. Barrymore was there with husband Will Kopelman; it looks like 9-month-old daughter Frankie stayed at home.
LUTZ AN EAGER BEAVER OPERATOR
There’s more than one way to repay your manager for all his hard work. Kellan Lutz declined to ride a mechanical beaver during a Sundance Film Festival party, but did ask to run the controls when his manager hopped on. That resulted in Lutz’s manager hitting the floor in a hurry. Rapper Lil’ John declined to ride the bucking beaver, predictably giving an X-rated explanation we’ll leave for readers to figure out.
DEPP & HEARD ARE A CLOSE FIT
Once in a while, celebrity couples can pull off the whole coordinated outfits thing — in this case, maybe sharing clothes. As Johnny Depp and fiancée Amber Heard landed at Haneda Airport in Tokyo on Monday, their black and white outfits looked very jet-setter chic. The couple held hands walking through the airport and even managed a few smiles as Depp signed autographs for fans.
ENGLISH LESSON AT WINEFEST
Foodies were speaking English at the Mohegan Sun’s Sun WineFest over the weekend. Playboy chef Todd English, who was famously served a DUI in the Hamptons last summer, had a place to stay after attending this weekend’s spirited event. “He was mingling with fans and posing for many pictures with his son, Oliver,” said one hotel guest. Other chefs at the event included Jose Garces, Jasper White, Terry French and Brooklyn’s own Michele Ragussis.
MILEY TRIP A BUST
No need to call the Coast Guard. That mysterious floating object, or objects, hovering around the Maui coastline is simply Miley Cyrus’ chest. The 22-year-old pop star went topless while playing in the Hawaii waves with boyfriend Patrick Schwarzenegger, 21, last week. The blond and her bearded beau made out on the beach while cavorting in the ocean.
Heidi Klum brings the glam in an asymmetrical dress while launching her Intimates line at Bondi Icebergs nightclub in Sydney, Australia.
JOANNA & PALS PRETTY FETCHING
It was a dog day afternoon for “Real Housewives of Miami” star Joanna Krupa, who spent Sunday at the beach in Malibu with three happy pups. The animal lover and activist regularly posts photos of her rescue pets, embracing the hashtag #AdoptDontShop on Twitter. It looks like her dogs are fond of the beauty as well.
NEXT ON BEY WATCH: PRIVATE LUNCH
A curvier-looking Beyoncé, along with mom Tina, hubby Jay Z, daughter Blue Ivy and best friend Kelly Rowland, made it a family affair for lunch at My Two Cents in L.A. Queen Bey had the eatery shut down so the group could eat without gawkers. Blue Ivy got lucky after the outing: Mama Bey took her girl to XIV Karats in Beverly Hills and bought her mini-me some jewelry.

— Miley Cyrus on “Entertainment Tonight”
“No one does it like Trump! It’s like the Academy Awards, but with better-looking contestants.”
